Blessing and Cursing

Blessing and Cursing
Deuteronomy 30:19
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
This scripture in Deuteronomy brings to light that as life is the opposite of death, so it is blessing and cursing. The Lord is also teaching us that it is the choice of life that brings blessing and the choice of death that brings cursing. In Deuteronomy 30:16-18 the Lord further qualifies this principle of life and death, blessing and cursing; “In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, [and that] ye shall not prolong [your] days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.”
Our God is calling us to Life today. He is calling us back to a sanctified and committed walk with Him. Even in the light of world events, we are beginning to see a greater distinction of light and dark, good and evil, godly values and worldly values. The grays are fading into black and white and God is calling us to the place of no more compromise. Our nation is in peril because we have become tolerant and complacent with sin, not only in our nation and its values, but foremost in our own lives. Our nation is reflecting the values of our own hearts. We, as a nation who has said our trust is in the Lord, have stopped honoring, reverencing and fearing Him in the way that is due His awesome name. We like Aaron’s son’s, Nadab and Abihu, have been offering up strange fire in our sacrifice of worship to God. We worship and serve God our way and not His way. We count as common and ordinary that which is Holy and to be feared. God is a wonderful and loving God who desires to bless us and bring us into the fullness of His blessing and inheritance for us, but we must never allow ourselves, as we already have, to become careless and sloppy about who our God is. He is not a God that will wink at our sin and continue to allow us to go our own way. Whenever we get careless and fail to truly fear, reverence and adore our awesome Lord and Father, judgements are soon to follow for we are making a choice for cursing and not blessings, we are choosing death and not life. God says in the scripture in Deuteronomy, “But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear”. Are you and I truly hearing the voice of the Spirit of God in this hour?
Joshua put a challenge before the children of Israel in Joshua 24:15, “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Our God is not honored by, nor will He continue to tolerate our religious, fleshly worship and way of life. We have made His name a reproach, because the world so often sees in us, less of what they perceive God to be, and more of what they see in those of the world. What we see in the general embodiment of Christianity is not the heart of God, but a strange fire of sin, self, flesh and Spirit, an unholy mixture. God wants to visit us again with His glory and His presence, but if He does in the state that we are in, we will die. Judgement will come swiftly upon us. His presence must manifest itself in a sanctified and holy place that has been consecrated unto Him alone. God is not interested in our religious trappings; He is interested in believers who want an intimate relationship with Him and are willing to pay the price to obtain it. In the Song of Solomon there were virgins without number, but there was only one Beloved, only one bride with whom He would be intimate and lover.
Our blessing is His Life. When we possess our Father’s heart and He fully possesses us we will not be turned away to other gods. We will pursue His life and presence with all that is within us. We will be His sanctuary, His priesthood and His beloved. It is time for us to make the choice of life or death, blessing or cursing. If we continue lukewarm and double-minded He will spew us out of His mouth. We must prepare the way of the Lord for He is coming to a bride as it says in Ephesians 5:27, “That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Today is our day to repent and return unto Him with our whole heart, mind, soul and strength. He is worthy.

What do you hold in your Hand?

What do you hold in your Hand?
Acts 3:6-8
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk And he took him by the right hand, and lifted [him] up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
.
If I told you to close your eyes and hold out your hands and in one hand I placed a check for a million dollars and in the other hand I placed a Bible. Now open your eyes and tell me which of those two items you choose to keep? The check is good and redeemable at your local bank. I want you not to just give the answer you think is right, but if this was truly an option for you, which would you choose?
For those of you that chose the Bible over the million dollar check; why would you choose a $10 to $100 book over a million dollars? Chances are you don’t read that book near as much as you need too or would like to anyway because you are out there trying to earn the million dollars, so are you sure you made the right choice? What would make this book so valuable that it would be worth more than a million dollars? Well, for one thing a million dollars has limitations, even though it is a substantial amount of money; God’s Word and His promises don’t have any limitations. The potential of God’s Word and promises are without measure. But what makes this book even more valuable is that it holds the words and the way to eternal life and a right relationship with God Almighty. There isn’t enough money in the world to buy that. In a few short years our life on earth is done and if this is all there is, well, we might as well live with all the stops pulled out because there is no more. Why do we as Christians believe that there is more? Because we believe that book when it says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” That “whosoever” means that anybody qualifies if they truly believe. We would choose that Bible because we realize that our faith in God is the most powerful asset that we have. Our faith in our God connects us with the ALMIGHTY, DIVINE CREATOR GOD! We are plugged into the powerhouse of the universe. Nothing that is, would exist, if it were not for Him, so why would we choose a meagerly million dollars when in Christ we have wealth and riches beyond limitations.
Now, neither that paper check nor that book with pages and written words has a great amount of value in and of themselves. The reason they have value is because we see the potential that each one of them carries. If I never cash the check and withdraw the money, the million dollars does me absolutely no good and the same is true of the Word of God. If I don’t lay hold of it’s promises by faith and cash in on them by believing God, then they too, are worthless to me. For something to have value it has to be acted upon. I have to invest money to buy some commodity and I have to invest my faith to reap my promise.
In our scripture today Peter invested his faith into that lame man. The results were astounding. We also, can have astounding results when we dare to invest our faith and walk with our God. What amount of money could have bought what Peter imparted to that lame man and Peter couldn’t have imparted it if he hadn’t made a choice earlier to pursue the world’s economy or to pursue Christ. In John 14:12 Jesus tells us, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” Now, unless Jesus is a liar, there is potential in those words that a lot of us aren’t realizing, but the condition is that we believe on Him. We need to begin to comprehend what we have in our hand when we chose that Bible over that million dollars. We need to begin to redeem those promises and allow that Holy Spirit within us to enact those promises as we dare to believe and step out in faith.
The Bible isn’t a magic wand, but it is what can direct us to be in one heart and one mind with our Savior so that we might be an extension of His love and salvation in the earth. He will give us the power to be what we need to be, as we are living and acting in obedience to Him.
What is in your hand and what are you doing with it?

Under the Shadow of His Wing

Under the Shadow of His Wing
Matthew 23:37
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under [her] wings, and ye would not!
Is this not a commentary on our nation today as we have little by little removed God from our schools, our government, our homes and our hearts? The Lord spoke to Israel back in Deuteronomy 8 among other places. He made promises to them of His provision and protection if they were faithful to not forsake and turn away from Him. It grieves many of us as Christians to see the state our nation is in and where it is heading. I can only think that it is because there are still many who do cry out against the abominations we see in our country and that we know grieves the heart of God, that God has mercifully withheld His judgement thus far . The events of 9/11 and other nation impacting event are a wake-up call to us to bring us to that place of repentance and call us to return to the Lord with our whole hearts. Thank God He has mercifully given us a godly leader at this time that is bold to hold up a standard of righteousness in strength. One who promotes justice and truth and the right to life. God forbid that we continue on as Israel did to their own destruction. There is a place of protection in God and we have forsaken it.
Under the hierarchy of God there is an order of authority and leadership. When each one is in submission to their respective head and leadership there is a divine order of protection and blessing. When that order is forsaken through disobedience, rebellion, self-will and sin, the umbrella of God’s blessing and protection has been stepped out of. The shield of faith has been dropped and we have made ourselves vulnerable to the mortal wounds of our adversary. We see this breakdown in God’s order all around us from the individual, to family, to church, to government, to God Himself. God founded this nation to be a type of New Israel. He divinely fashioned and established it. He has blessed it to become the greatest nation on the earth, but we are going the way of our forefathers, natural Israel. God, through the Holy Spirit is speaking to His Church and to His nation to be gathered in the unity of the faith under the shadow and protection of the wings of our God. In that place of obedience nothing touches us but what it first has to go through our God, but in our state of rebellion and disobedience we remove the hedge of His protection.
I remember a precious friend and saint of God many years ago was given a vision when her children were still young and in the household. She saw a horrible and hideous beast around her house checking every door and window, looking for some way in to get to her children. The Lord showed her that as long as her children remained in submission and obedience to their parents they were protected, but if they refused and chose to go out from the house they removed themselves from the hedge and umbrella of protection and were prey for that beast. What we sometimes forget and take for granted is that when we get out of order and remove ourselves from God’s protection, then we not only make ourselves vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy, but also those that are under our authority and responsibility.
The Lord is calling us back to His heart today, to repent and come quickly back under the shadow of His wing. Let us return to Him with our whole hearts and stand in the place of intercession for the hearts of so many that have grown cold and callused against the Lord. We can only expect that in the last days the division and the line between light and darkness will become more pronounced and distinct. This is a day for spiritual battle and we must prepare our hearts and spirits for it.

The Joy of Fools
May 29, 2018
The Joy of Fools
Proverbs 15:21
Folly delights a man who lacks judgment, but a man of understanding keeps a straight course.
What is folly but a fountain of foolish acts lived and acted out by one who lacks the practice of sound judgment and fails to embrace truth? Many of us have had those times of foolishness in our lives. Most of us look back and shudder at some of things we did and realize the consequences that could have followed those actions. For many of us, God gave us grace to see the error of those ways and to see where they were taking us. Was it fun? Oh sure it was fun to party and to act out of the lust and impulses of the flesh. It was fun to be wild and unrestrained, but it had no future and it didn’t produce what most of us desired out of life.
I can remember my college years. It was a time of making the transition from my parent’s values to my own values. I was becoming my own person and could now choose what I thought was right and wrong for me. I remember some of the partying and the wild things that we did. It was fun at the time, but then when you were alone the question would come, “Is this all there is to life? What is my purpose? What are my goals? What happens when we leave this life and all that we have done is live for selfish pleasure? Is there no more consciousness and we cease to exist or do we indeed have to give an account of our ways before an Almighty God?
I began to realize early on that foolishness is a dead end street. Oh yeah, it may be like Bourbon Street in New Orleans and life can be like Madrigal, but where does it lead us and what is our end? What I experienced was emptiness and lack of true fulfillment and joy. My happiness was only temporal, but it never really satisfied and gave meaning to life. Perhaps some of us are still trying to hold on to our areas of folly. Perhaps those areas of folly and foolishness have become strongholds in our life that we don’t want to give up or let go of. Fools and misery love company. You will become like the people that you associate with. You can never really come out of your foolishness until you are willing to depart company with the foolish and seek out the company of the wise.
The wise are not necessarily smarter than everyone else is, but they have come to the realization that wisdom and life is in seeking out the Lord and following in His ways. He is the author of wisdom and His paths are straight, but they lead us unto life. Proverbs 16:16-17 says, “How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver! 17 The highway of the upright avoids evil; he who guards his way guards his life.” Folly will only delight a man who lacks understanding, because when we understands the high ways of the Lord, we will no longer delight in the lower road. That road will only lead us to hell and destruction.
Have you given up those areas of foolishness that may be destroying your life and the lives of the ones that you say you love? A truly wise man heeds counsel, he receives correction and departs from evil, but one who is truly a fool will not listen and he will not learn. Proverbs 9:8 says, “Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.“ Is the delight of our folly worth the consequences that it brings if you continue it? Do we have enough wisdom to say, “enough, no more!”?

The High Places
April 19, 2018
The High Places
2Chronicle 20:23
Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
In Old Testament times post dating Moses we know there was an altar of the Lord that dwelt in a tabernacle and later, through David, came to rest in Jerusalem. For us, who are New Testament Christians, this altar has become the equivalent of Calvary and the Cross. It is the central altar around which our faith rests and where we find communion with our fellow believers and the Lord Himself. It is our place of worship. It is the place where we committed our hearts and souls to the Lord and ask Him to come into our hearts, cleanse us and be the Lord of our lives. It is that place as Romans 12:1-2 puts it, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” It is that altar where we consecrate ourselves, our worship, our affections and our commitment, first and foremost to Jesus Christ, our Savior. He alone is the object of our worship, before whom there should be no other Gods. For it is written, “thou shalt worship the Lord God and Him only shalt thou serve (Matthew 4:10).”
Once again we are asked to go to the places we would rather leave hidden and obscure from the Holy Spirit’s observation. Today He comes to us to address the “high places” in our hearts and souls. These were the places, other than the altar at Jerusalem where the Israelites went to worship. They were places not designated or ordained of God. They were often places of cultic activity, idol worship and perhaps the places more convenient than the altar at Jerusalem. What are they for us today? Could they be the places of inordinate affections: our sports, our play, our work, our lust and sensuality, our harbored attitudes of unforgiveness, our movies, computers, games and any number of things that have come into the high places of our heart. If we are to prepare our hearts before the Lord as our scripture indicates we must deal with and take down the high places. These things are not easy to let go of. Our flesh craves and covets them, but they have become an abomination and have brought a separation between our God and us. They are the idols in our lives, rather we recognize them as such or not and with them we are breaking covenant with God. These are often things and areas we just as soon stay ignorant of because it will cause us to face areas of our lives we don’t want to face. It is really those areas where our flesh makes provision for itself to stay alive and active in us rather than going to the cross. Are we willing like King Josiah, after hearing the Word of the Lord, to go into the high places of our heart and soul and tear down the idols and affections we have built there? We must be willing to come honestly and openly before the Holy Spirit and ask Him to show us any unclean way in our heart. Then, as He begins to reveal these things, we have to be obedient to put them away from our lives. Our flesh will cry out and we will still want to harbor and keep some part of it, but when we do we are leaving seed for it to return and it will. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 tells us, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong-holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” What are the high things in our hearts that exalt themselves against God today? We must, by the Spirit pull down the strongholds and bring every thought into obedience to Christ. We must guard where our thoughts take us, because they may well be the seed for disobedience, rebellion and idolatry. We must guard our hearts and keep them tender in the light of God’s grace and truth.
“God, give us grace and strength to lay it all on the altar of sacrifice and let go of all that would offend You.”
For us to live an uncompromised life we must tear down the high places and deal with the hidden issues of our hearts. This is what the Holy Spirit is speaking to us, it is to prepare our hearts to be pure, consecrated and in right relationship with our Lord.

The Loving Hand of Correction
February 26, 2018
The Loving Hand of Correction
Hebrew 12:5-8
5) And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him. 6) For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7) If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 ) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
Most of us would rather run away from discipline and correction. Especially when things are going well the last thing we want is someone to rock our boat, especially heavenly Father. Every motive and action of God is birthed in love, for He is love. For God to leave us to our own devices and ways would not be very loving on His part since we are His children and His responsibility is to raise us as such. While many of us say we love God we can be just as stubborn and rebellious about spiritual things as we can about natural things. Out of God’s great love for us, because we are His children, He corrects and disciplines us in many different ways. Even though that goes against the grain of our flesh, what is the greatest hindrance to our spiritual walk if it is not the old natural ways of living and thinking? The trials and tribulations that touch our lives are exercising our true faith, spiritual obedience and substance. I find I can think I’m pretty a good egg until the Lord allows me to tested in an area and what comes out of me or how I respond is often a pretty good indicator that a definite work of grace and correction is needed in that area of my life. Unfortunately for most of us God has to keep taking us around and around some of the mountains in our life, because we still can’t seem to get it right. How often have we read about the Israelites of the Old Testament and shook our heads at the fact we saw a continual cycle of rebellion and disobedience to God, His warnings and exhortation to turn from sin, their continued path of disobedience, God’s rod of discipline and correction, the repentance and turning again to God. Then it would start all over again. 1 Corinthians 10: 11 says, “Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” Here we have 20/20 hindsight, but do we make any better choices and demonstrate a greater measure of obedience and submission to the Lord than our Israelite predecessors?
Those who have trusted God for their salvation are at the heart of God’s love. Even Jesus is our example, for it says, “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered (Hebrew 5:8).” Let us not take the discipline of the Lord as a sign of His displeasure or anger toward us. Though our discipline is not pleasant while we are going through it the Lord does it for our profit and good. The end result is that it works the peaceable fruits of righteousness in us when we have been exercised by it. Like the loving Father that He is, He is not allowing us to grow up spiritually being the self-willed, self- serving children we would be inclined to be, but the children that are being conformed to image of the Father by His loving hand and correction.
Let’s thank God He loves us the way we are but loves us too much to let us stay that way.
Blessings,

True Prosperity
January 30, 2018
Genesis 39:1-6
Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.
2 The LORD was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, 4 Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. 5 From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. 6 So he left in Joseph’s care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.
True Prosperity
Most all of us know the story of Joseph. He was despised by his brothers who sold him into slavery and deceived their father into thinking that he was killed by wild animals. Joseph is not just a person, but is representative of a company of people that God is raising up. Now the Lord is with this people, even as He was with Joseph. Verse 2 says, “The Lord was with Joseph and he prospered.” Now if Joseph prospered, it is not the way most of us view prosperity. Life was hard, he was now a slave and just when you don’t think life can’t get any worse than it already is, it does. Next, he is falsely accused by his master’s wife of rape, because he refused to sleep with her, then he goes from slavery to prison. So how can the Word say that Joseph prospered?
What we have is what Joseph had, the Lord. When the Lord is with us He can cause us to prosper even in the most adverse circumstances. Joseph wasn’t prosperous because his circumstances dictated it. He was prosperous because the favor of the Lord was upon his life. We might think, if the Lord favored him so highly why did he have to go through the hell that he did?
He learned a truth. It is only as we walk through the low places that we develop the humility to rule in the high places. It is in the low places of injustice, false accusation, imprisonment and rejection that we learn a place of prosperity that supersedes that of the world. It is in those places that we find a friend that is closer than a brother, a relationship like no other.
Do we relish the pain and the suffering associated with this destiny that Joseph has before him? No, but like him, we have a dream, a vision and a promise that the Lord has set before us and that He alone is able to bring to pass. So, like Joseph, we live in the promise of what God has shown us and we count Him faithful who has promised to bring it to pass in its due season. Meanwhile our prosperity is in our daily walk and fellowship with Him. In that relationship He gives us divine favor and the special grace to despise the shame and continue to walk the walk. Like Joseph, by faith we hold fast to the faithful God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The world around us may have forgotten us, despised us and rejected us. To them we are hidden, except to those whose lives we touch with the grace and favor that is upon us. Even they often quickly forget the unique encounter they had with us. It is like God is marinating us and tenderizing us, so that through the fire we might emerge as the vessels of gold He has prepared us to be.
Don’t be discouraged by your circumstances, because they don’t dictate your prosperity. Your prosperity comes from the favor of the Lord that rests upon you and orders your step. Just be faithful wherever He leads and whatever you must go through. The way up is often through the way down. Jesus went to hell, before He went to heaven. It was the sacrifice of death that brought the resurrection of life. We also may have to lose our life that we may truly find it. What God is working in you is for your ultimate good and His ultimate glory. Be like Joseph, be faithful in all that you must endure. Stay the course and know that your prosperity is not without, but within.

Renegades
January 18, 2018
Renegades
1 Timothy 4:1-3
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron Forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
Did you ever think about there being renegades, religious or spiritual outlaws, deserters and traitorous to the faith of Jesus Christ? The Word of God warns us there is and will be and not only so, but they become the wolves that prey upon the flock. They know the culture, the language, the scripture, but they have become hypocrites feigning and pretending to be what they are not. Even as the enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy, these renegades have become the agents of satan to undermine, destroy and put into bondage those who do not discern their workings. They are manipulators, using and abusing the flock of God to their own end, purpose and glory. In the end it is all about them and they have become so hardened and callused to the dealings of the Holy Spirit that they completely ignore whatever warning He has tried to give them.
Beware of those who use condemnation and coercion to force their will and ideas upon you. They put yokes and bondage upon you that Christ never intended that you bear. They use religion rather a relationship of love to promote their gospel and unholy tidings. Yes, it will contain truth and much of it will come from the Bible, but the devil is a bottle poison in a lake of truth and so are these agents of his. These will become more and more prominent in the latter days as the spirit of antichrist is at work in the world and is becoming more manifest. Guard your hearts with the full knowledge of the Word of God and the Spirit of Truth. 2 Timothy goes on to warn us, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” The testimony of a true believer is not just in the rhetoric of their mouth, but in the fruit of their lives. Many great teachers and preachers and so-called men of God we only see from a distance, living behind a projected front of holiness and religion. The true man of God won’t put you again under the law of condemnation. He will declare to you the law of liberty, freedom and righteousness, which is through Christ alone. The man of God will not manipulate you through guilt, fear, judgement and condemnation, which is a form of witchcraft. I often find it offensive to receive what can be a moving email and at the end I am condemned and not a good Christian if I don’t send this to at least ten more people. That’s condemnation and manipulation. If it is of God then let God move upon the hearts of those who read it to pass it on. Unfortunately it speaks of the mentality of much of what is at work in Christendom today. When we have to force it, lay guilt trips and condemnation on people to get them to respond to our ideas and agendas then we are acting out of the flesh and not out of the Spirit of God. There are sermons I have heard on tithing and giving that would have me feeling like a reprobate if I wasn’t giving more. Then I have heard sermons and teaching on tithing and offerings that brought me into a greater revelation of the joy and act of worship that is entailed with giving. It taught me the spiritual and natural benefits involved in giving. The difference was in one I might have given out of guilt and condemnation, in the other instance I was seeking the Lord on how I could give more, because I wanted too. It was my joy and worship to do so, not my condemnation.
Many years ago I felt like the Spirit of the Lord spoke to me and said, “in the last days you will see miracles and what will appear to be great works and moves of God. Don’t look upon the outward things, but look at the heart. By the heart of a man you will know his nature.” Satan can counterfeit miracles and Christians, but he can’t counterfeit the love and the fruit of the Spirit, at least not for long.
I’m not sure why the Spirit has led me to write this, but there are those that need to be discerning about who they are following and where they are being led. The Word of God says in 1 John 4:1, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” In Matthew 10:16 Jesus tells us, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” God doesn’t want us to just follow blindly anyone that seems to have a good message. Make sure the message lines up with the whole counsel of God, that it truly bears witness with your spirit and that you have the complete peace of God as you follow it. If something seems wrong it may well be the Holy Spirit raising a red flag in your heart. Beware of the renegades, they may be dressed just like you, but their heart is in a different place.

Every Day

Every Day
Revelations 20:12
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
It occurs to me as I sit and write that all of us are composing and writing our lives upon God’s books. Each of us has a life’s novel that tells the story of our lives and what we did with them. Though the memories of us may fade and we are forgotten in the earth, there is a record that stands, a book that we wrote.
What are we writing in our book? How will it read back to us as we stand before God and give an account for our lives and what we did with them? If we feel we have nothing else, our life is our talent, to use for God’s glory and purpose or for our own. The sad part is, none of us can ever go back and erase what we did the day before or the years before. The ink is already dry upon the page. The good news is that today is still to be written and our tomorrows after that. What are we writing upon the pages of our life? Will it be a story that pleases the Father or one in which we stand ashamed at a life wasted and that brought forth no lasting value in its life’s pursuits?
All of us have our regrets, our failures and our pages we wish that we could write over. The important thing for us not to forget is that we are still writing this book. Ecclesiastes says that as long as there is life there is hope. Will your book be a story of transformation from death to life? Will it be a story of how your life was a blessing; not only to God, but also to the lives you touched? What are we going to write in our book today and through the coming weeks and years?
Psalms 118: 4 says, “This [is] the day [which] the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” There is a Latin phrase, “Carpe diem”, simply, “seize the day”, make the most of every moment that we have breath and life.
Solomon was a man that had and could have all that his heart desired. He set out to find the meaning and purpose of life. At the end, this is what he had to say and we will conclude with his words of wisdom in Ecclesiastes 12. “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”- 2 before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain; 3 when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows grow dim; 4 when the doors to the street are closed and the sound of grinding fades; when men rise up at the sound of birds, but all their songs grow faint; 5 when men are afraid of heights and of dangers in the streets; when the almond tree blossoms and the grasshopper drags himself along and desire no longer is stirred. Then man goes to his eternal home and mourners go about the streets. 6 Remember him—before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, or the wheel broken at the well, 7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. 8 “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Everything is meaningless!”
The Conclusion of the Matter
13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.”
May we consider carefully every day how we write each page of our book.

Be Angry and Sin Not
December 5, 2017
Be Angry and Sin Not
Ephesians 4:26-27
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.
Anger is a God given emotion. While it is not sin to be angry, it carries with it the potential for sin. On the other hand it can be an emotion that motivates us out of a place of passivity and complacency. Any emotion or feeling we give place too has the potential to lead to sin if it is not brought under the control of the Holy Spirit within us. Most all of us are aware of what uncontrolled anger can do and the harm it can cause both emotionally and physically. Many marriages are broken and people reside in prison as a result of anger. The Word of God gives us some insight into the right place of anger through the example of Jesus when he saw the misuse and abuse of the temple of the Lord by the money- changers. He saw the greed and corruption at work in the Temple, which was to be a place that was to bring relationship and connection with God. Jesus didn’t just immediately fly off the handle. He took the time to make a whip of cords to be the instrument of His wrath to drive the moneychangers out of the temple. His anger had a purpose and was God directed. (John 2:14-17 “And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting. And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up”) We often think of Jesus as just being a man of love and compassion, but there was another side of Jesus that didn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, hypocrisy and abuse of others. There was a holy anger and zeal of God that rose up in Jesus against such things. It is this kind of anger that often rises up in God’s people to bring about change in lawful ways.
What about the issues of anger that we may deal with on a daily basis? They may not be so noble in their cause. Anger can not always just be ignored or repressed. That can just place more powder in a powder keg that will one day result in even more extreme consequences if we don’t deal with it. At the same time anger can’t just be reacted too unchecked. It should be filtered through the Spirit within us to judge our motives in each circumstance it arises. While anger may arise at times and can actually cause us to deal with and address issues that we may otherwise avoid, the scripture says it is not something we want to hold on too. The Word gives us about a day to deal with it. But it tells us if it is still there when the sun goes down it is time to let it go. Anger held onto becomes unforgiveness. Unforgiveness removes us from right relationship with God and blocks the flow of His forgiveness to us.
The spirit of anger and wrath is a fruit of the flesh and not the Spirit and cannot be given place in our hearts because it is sin. (Ephesians 4:31″Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: “) The theme of the passage in Ephesians 4 that addresses the subject of anger is primarily about being renewed in the spirit of our minds. While we have emotions, they cannot rule us. The Spirit and the peace of God must rule in our hearts. The former areas of emotion and sin that ruled us must do so no longer. Now we put off these former attitudes and behaviors as we put on Christ and that mind that is in Him.
