Reception, Perception and Installation
Matthew 13:14-17
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and [their] ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and should understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed [are] your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous [men] have desired to see [those things] which ye see, and have not seen [them]; and to hear [those things] which ye hear, and have not heard [them].
We are a very blessed people in this nation. We are rich and wealthy in many things. One of the things we are wealthy in, is the rich knowledge and understanding we have of the Word of God. We think of places like China and countries where the Bible has been outlawed and how hungry the saints of God there are for a fraction of what we have and take for granted. My concern is the responsibility for what I do know and understand.
The nation of Israel was not so different. They had the law and the prophets. They were the richest nation on earth concerning spiritual knowledge and understanding of who God is. They were the source of true spiritual life to the nations. Unfortunately, here is Christ in there very midst and they don’t even perceive Him for who He is.
When we talk about reception, we talk about taking in or receiving something. Many of us have taken in spiritual information over a great deal of our lives; some of us not near so long. What are we doing with what we receive? Do we use it to condemn and judge others who don’t have what we have? Do we simply retain this knowledge in our hearts and minds, but it is having no real affect in changing our lives? Israel, like many of us, learned to go through all of the spiritual and religious motions of honoring God and keeping ceremony, but what happened to their spiritual senses and the application of the life changing principles that they had knowledge of?
I become concerned when I look at my life and think, am I just talking about these things of God, passing on what He has made known and real to me, but not really installing them into every aspect of my own life. Often I don’t perceive these principles manifest in my personal walk as I know they ought to be. If I know them, then I can’t claim ignorance. I am without excuse. This is where I find that knowledge alone is not enough. What I know and what I live can be two totally different things. If what I hear and know and see doesn’t affect a heart change then I may be puffed up with knowledge, but void true spiritual life. Jesus didn’t come just to give us more information about who God is; He came to be the life changing information that can transform you and me from the hopeless lost individuals that we were into the sons and daughters of the Most High God, bearing His standard and nature. The Lord has given us His Holy Spirit to take this information and put His finger on the areas of our heart that need change and transformation. We can bow our necks as Israel is indited of doing here, dulling our spiritual senses so that while there may be knowledge, there is no true revelation and change taking place in our hearts. Thus, we continue our walk through life projecting a spiritual and religious front, while inwardly we are void of true Spirit and Life.
Do we all have doubts and questionings at times about God and our faith, of course we do. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t be walking by faith. It is “the knowing” that Christ has placed in our hearts, that continues to raise a standard of confidence against such doubts. We can’t say we always understand why things are as they are, or happen as they happen, but we have an assurance in our hearts that God is God and forever sets upon the throne having dominion over all things. In that confidence we rest knowing that nothing can separate us from His love.
The installation of that which we spiritually perceive and understand is a lifelong and continual process. Our greatest danger is falling into complacency and apathy along the way. We must never take our spiritual relationship with Christ for granted. Like our marriages, it needs continual nurturing, fellowship, relationship and commitment. Otherwise it will be said of us, “For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and [their] ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and should understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.”

A Little can do a Lot
April 29, 2019
John 6:5-12
When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
7Philip answered him, “Eight months’ wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”
8Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9″Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
10Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. 11Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
A Little can do a Lot
Most all of us, I am sure, are familiar with this story of the little boy whose five loaves and two fishes, fed over five thousand people. What would have been a staggering task, logistically and monetarily, was taken care of by a little boy’s willingness and a mighty God’s faithfulness. The message I hear pressing on my heart today in this message is that if we are willing to unselfishly give the little that we have, God is willing to increase it to give back the abundance of what we need.
How many times are we robbed because our vision of faith isn’t great enough to see past the fear of not having enough? What if the little boy would have refused to give up his meal for fear that he would go hungry, after all, his mom had made it for him, not for everyone else. Are we willing to put in the Master’s hands what is just provision enough for us? Are we willing to not only trust Him for our own needs, but the needs of others met through us? Those are questions we might all like to answer yes, but in reality, when it comes down to it, we are reluctant to let go of what is in our hand.
Five is the number of grace and the bread represents Christ, who is the bread of life. It is His grace that is sufficient for all of our needs according to His riches in glory. Two is the number of witness and fish are those which carry provision. The great fish carried Jonah to Nineveh and the fish had in its mouth the money to pay the tax for Peter and Jesus. The fish bear witness that Christ is our provision to do impossible things in impossible ways. Our eyes have to be opened and our faith vision increased to see what God can do through our apparent little if we are faithful to give it to Him.
This is where we will learn kingdom economy and kingdom living as we are the supply for one another’s needs. As we meet the needs in others we will see our needs met. Let us have the faith of this little boy to trust God with our five little loaves and two little fishes. It is not in seeking the miracles, it is in the relationship that we have with the Person of miracles. Let us have the faith to put our lunch in His hands.

Even Jesus was Slandered
March 27, 2019
John 8:48
The Jews answered him, “Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?”
Even Jesus was Slandered
Some of us have gotten quite offended because we have been misunderstood or others have taken up an offense against us because we didn’t fit in their belief box. Here is the truth! It doesn’t matter what you or I believe if it doesn’t line up with the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. If the religious crowd of that day, who supposedly knew and taught God’s ways, were so willing to slander Jesus, The Way, The Truth and The Life, then should it be any surprise if you are misunderstood or you are slandered for teaching truth. Truth is only evident in the light of the understanding and belief system that we currently have. How many of us may now embrace what we once thought was in error, because we have come into a greater understanding and revelation of Truth. Many were blind to the truth of Jesus in His day, even many of His disciples walked away from Him in John 6:66, because of the truth that He spoke to them. There are things we are going to hear that will go against traditional teaching and paradigms, but they are substantiated by their alignment with the Word of God and the fruit of righteousness that they should produce.
Should we believe and receive every teaching that comes down the pipe? Of course not.
1 John 4:1-3 says, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.” If we are walking in the Spirit then the truth will bear witness with the Word and the Spirit, even if it doesn’t fit in our box of current understanding. Jesus is taking us from glory to glory as we are being transformed into His image. In each realm of glory is a deeper dimension and revelation of truth. If we are not sure about something, we put it on the shelf and pray for the Holy Spirit to give us understanding and discernment concerning it.
Men of God can be mentors, lights and examples to follow in the way of truth, but they are never the foundation upon which you build your house. They can give you guidance and direction, as well help you to grow into your potential in Christ, but they never take the place of Christ. Even good men are subject to falling or getting into error, so trust first the Word of God and the Spirit of God whom you must come to know for yourself. Then if good or great men fall before you it won’t shake or move you in your faith.
As you come into deeper truth and understanding it will be a joy and illumination to your spirit, but don’t be surprised if others don’t embrace it with you and may even turn against you. Be faithful to what God shows you. We are accountable for what we know. Love and pray for those that may slander or malign you. John 15:24 says, “If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father.” The truth should produce and manifest kingdom results as it did in the life of Jesus. That is the witness that this is the truth. Jesus told the believers in John 8:31, “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Desire Wisdom

Desire Wisdom
Proverbs 2:1-11
1 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, 2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding, 3 and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, 5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. 7 He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, 8 for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just and fair-every good path. 10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. 11 Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.
Among the things that we covet, desire and pursue in the earth, is wisdom one of the primary things? Proverbs 8:11 says, “For wisdom [is] better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.” Proverbs 16:16 says, “How much better [is it] to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!” Godly wisdom is a much neglected thing and yet just the word “wisdom” is used some 234 times throughout the Word of God, so one might get the impression it is a more important aspect in God’s eyes than many of us realize. It is far too exhaustive to cover thoroughly in this brief study, but let’s just let God’s Word instruct us in this area today.
First, what is wisdom? Ecclesiastes 2:26 says, “For [God] giveth to a man that [is] good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to [him that is] good before God. This also [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.” James 3:17 tells us, “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” It is godly guiding principles of life that helps one to produce the fruit of godliness in their life and walk.
How does one obtain it? Job 28:28, Proverb 1:7 and Proverbs 9:10 pretty closely agree and bear witness to each other that, “The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy (to depart from evil) [is] understanding.” It says that fools will despise wisdom and instruction. So, if you be among the wise, “So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, [and] apply thine heart to understanding;(Proverbs 2:2) For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: [he is] a buckler to them that walk uprightly (Proverbs2:6-7).”
Why is it so important? Proverbs 4:7 says, “Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 15:33 tells us, “The fear of the LORD [is] the instruction of wisdom; and before honour [is] humility.” It is so important, because learning wisdom is learning the way of the Lord. It is our instruction and way of salvation. It is the path that leads to life. Proverbs 23:23 says, “Buy the truth, and sell [it] not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.” I think this is a key verse to understanding a couple of passages in the New Testament. If we think about this wisdom as like the oil of godly understanding, of principled living, of the knowledge which leads us into relationship and intimacy with Him, then we might get a little insight into Matthew 25:1-13. The parable about the ten virgins, five who were wise and five who were foolish. We just learned that the foolish are those who despise wisdom. The reason they despise wisdom is because wisdom demands great reverence and respect for God, as well as obedience. The foolish want to go their own way, be complacent and do their own thing. Proverbs 15:21 says, “Folly [is] joy to [him that is] destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly” Can any of us see that folly in ourselves? They were all virgins. They were all looking for Christ’s coming, but we see two different conditions of the heart, one acceptable and one not. Wisdom is not something you have in a moment of time, it something that you cultivate, grow and mature into. Wisdom is revealed to those that love her, seek after, cherish and respect her. She is a relational creature and one you must grow in relationship with. Proverbs 19:8 says, “He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.” Ecclesiastes 2:13 says, “Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.”
Isaiah 33:6 tells us, “And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, [and] strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD [is] his treasure” “My son, attend unto my wisdom, [and] bow thine ear to my understanding (Proverbs 5:1).” Perhaps through these many passages and exhortations of wisdom we are given even more a sense and gravity to the exhortation of Revelations 3:15, “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would that thou wert cold or hot. So because thou are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and the miserable and poor and blind and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined by fire, that thou mayes become rich; and white garments, that thou mayest cloth thyself, and that the shame of thy nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore and repent.” This is the exhortation to the foolish virgin to go get and buy wisdom before it is too late.
Let us pursue wisdom whereby our lamps are filled with oil and we are not filled with a false sense of security and riches; but of a truth, we are rich in the wisdom and the mind of our God.

Joy Cometh in the Morning
September 14, 2018
Joy Cometh in the Morning
Psalms 30:5
For his anger [endureth but] a moment; in his favour [is] life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy [cometh] in the morning.
Where is your life spiritually today? Would you characterize it as nighttime or daytime? Most all of us, who have been walking in Christ for a time, know that we go through seasons in a spiritual sense. There are times we go through such close intimate times with our Lord and sense His presence and love in such a wonderful way and then there are those nighttime experiences. It may come as a result of allowing sin to come into our lives. It may be the result of God’s chastening or dealings in our lives. It may be through persecution or tribulation. Whatever the reason it is nighttime experience, one in which we fail to sense God’s presence in our soul. Our prayers may seem hollow and of none effect. These are times when spiritually we cry out for God, perhaps it is in these times we really begin to seek God’s help, His presence, His deliverance through a trial or tribulation we are facing. There are times our lives can feel pretty bleak. Our circumstances are overtaking us. Where is God?
King David experienced this nighttime ordeal before He became King. Psalm 30:7-9 says, ”
LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, [and] I was troubled. I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication. What profit [is there] in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth? Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.” Perhaps you and I have prayed prayers similar to this. One thing that is so admirable about David and I think a spiritual key to us overcoming in these dark times is that David, no matter how low, remembered the goodness and the faithfulness of God. He continually brought God’s promises and His benefits before the Lord in his prayers and psalms. And he never ceased to praise and thank God even in those dark times. He was quite honest with God about what he was going through and the emotions that wanted to overtake him, but he always brought his thoughts and focus back to a place of faith in the faithfulness of God. We may go through some long nights that may go for years, but learn those principles that David learned. They will sustain you in those times. David even says an interesting thing in this passage, he says, ” by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face.” Have you ever thought of your mountain as favor from God? Remember that what God is allowing in your life is designed to press you into Him. He wants us to learn and trust Him for who He is, not what He can do for us. This is the place of maturing faith where the rubber meets the road. God has to become very real to us or we give up and turn away. God is processing us through the hardships of our life. “The trial of your faith is much more precious than Gold” (1 Peter 1:7a)
In this scripture David says “joy does come in the morning”, our trials, darkness and seeming separation from God won’t last forever. He is faithful to bring us through if we faithfully hold fast to Him. David’s next expression after talking of how severe the trial says, “Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; To the end that [my] glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.”
If you are in your night season, don’t be discouraged, have hope, God has not forsaken you. He is proving you and bringing you into whom you really are in Him. Stand the test, stay the course, for joy comes in the morning.

They that Wait upon the Lord
September 13, 2018
They that Wait upon the Lord
Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.
What does it mean for us to wait upon the Lord? The concordance says this phrase means to look for, hope, expect, to wait, linger or look eagerly for. Those that have grown mature and rich in the Lord can tell you they have done so with much waiting upon the Lord. As we wait for the Lord it is done with a heart of desire, expectation, longing, pursuing through prayer, worship, praise, thanksgiving and studying and searching of God’s Word. They have invested their lives to know Him on a more intimate basis, so they know His voice and are full of the treasures of His truth. The Lord most often doesn’t come to us on our timetable. He can often seem illusive and distant, slow to answer by our estimation. Do you suppose God is searching our hearts in this to find out how determined and in love with Him we truly are?
The society we live in wants everything instantly. We don’t have time to wait. Our lives are busy with many demands as we are pulled in so many directions. It is so difficult for us to make that time just for the Lord. I believe God sees the demands that are upon us and is not insensitive to commitments we must respond to. But what about all the hours of leisure time we spend in watching television or our own pursuits. We don’t think so much about waiting upon God then.
Jesus gives us some very interesting parables in Matthew 24 and 25 in the light of waiting upon the Lord and looking for His coming. In Matthew 25 Jesus talks about the ten virgins who took their lamps. Five took oil (But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.) and five didn’t. They all slumbered and slept. There is time for resting and sleeping for all of us. The difference comes in the preparation of the five wise. Matthew 25:5-13, “And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, [Not so]; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” We are the lamps of the Lord. Our lives must be able to illuminate our world through the Spirit and Life that is within us. If we have not taken the time to wait upon the Lord in the many ways that we build an intimate relationship with Him we’ve missed what it is to get oil for our lamps. Many may sit in church every Sunday and hear the Word of God, but if it is just a head thing and not a heart thing where that Word gets down into our hearts and transforms us as we apply it, we’ve missed it. The waiting on the Lord through spiritual acts of pursuit is what gives us the oil for our vessels. It is in those times that the Holy Spirit comes to quicken God’s Word to our heart and make Himself known in ways we don’t always see outwardly. The Lord reveals in this passage that He came for the ones who knew Him. They may have all been virgins or Christians, but if the Lord says, “I never knew you” then you have never come into that place of intimacy that goes beyond a surface knowledge and relationship and into a covenant relationship. That place where you share His Life, where He becomes the source, strength and dependence of your life.
Waiting upon the Lord is working and living in concert with the Holy Spirit. If we are not waiting then we are either running ahead of the Lord or we are distracted to other things. To wait upon the Lord is spend time in the Lord’s presence coming to know Him in the secret place. It is a place we renew our strength and indeed find strength and abilities that rise above our natural ones. Let’s find the wisdom of waiting on the Lord. It is an eternally rewarding experience.

Sheep or Goat
August 9, 2018
Sheep or Goat
Matthew 25:32-46
“All nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them [the people] from one another as a shepherd separates his sheep from the goats; 33And He will cause the sheep to stand at His right hand, but the goats at His left. 34Then the King will say to those at His right hand, Come, you blessed of My Father [you favored of God and appointed to eternal salvation], inherit (receive as your own) the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you brought Me together with yourselves and welcomed and entertained and lodged Me, 36I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me with help and ministering care, I was in prison and you came to see Me. 37Then the just and upright will answer Him, Lord, when did we see You hungry and gave You food, or thirsty and gave You something to drink? 38And when did we see You a stranger and welcomed and entertained You, or naked and clothed You? 39And when did we see You sick or in prison and came to visit You? 40And the King will reply to them, Truly I tell you, in so far as you did it for one of the least [in the estimation of men] of these My brethren, you did it for Me. 41Then He will say to those at His left hand, Begone from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels! 42For I was hungry and you gave Me no food, I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not welcome Me and entertain Me, I was naked and you did not clothe Me, I was sick and in prison and you did not visit Me with help and ministering care. 44Then they also [in their turn] will answer, Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You? 45And He will reply to them, Solemnly I declare to you, in so far as you failed to do it for the least [in the estimation of men] of these, you failed to do it for Me, 46Then they will go away into eternal punishment, but those who are just and upright and in right standing with God into eternal life.”
Every day we either minister or fail to serve Christ. For so many of us, we find ourselves so involved and caught up in what we are doing that we totally miss our mission and calling. We miss and fail to take the time and invest our resources into others. Many of us have built up a wall of resistance against those who cross our paths with needs. Even if we are giving, there are so many people, organizations and causes constantly asking for money and finances for something that we tend to get hardened to the “giving” as a whole. After all we have our own family to take care and worry about. While I would agree that there are more causes and people demanding from us than what most of us have resources to meet, are we still staying in tune with the Holy Spirit? Are we in relationship with Christ where we can move and give ourselves as He leads and impresses us rather than as everyone expects and demands from us?
When we look at the life of Jesus what impresses us about His giving? Did He raise great sums of money to put in the temple treasury? Did He get involved with every charitable organization or fundraiser? The first thing He did is He tuned into the Father and what the Father’s will for Him was and then He carried it out in action. He gave out of the well of His life and truth.
In John 6 we find that there are those that followed Jesus after He had fed the multitude, because they saw Him as a free meal ticket. They try and guilt Jesus into giving to them by using scriptural coercion. In John 6:30-35 we read this dialogue, “Our forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as the Scripture says, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.32Jesus then said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Moses did not give you the Bread from heaven [what Moses gave you was not the Bread from heaven], but it is My Father Who gives you the true heavenly Bread. 33For the Bread of God is He Who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world. 34Then they said to Him, Lord, give us this bread always (all the time)! 35Jesus replied, I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry, and he who believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me will never thirst any more (at any time)…. 38For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will and purpose but to do the will and purpose of Him Who sent Me.” The true gifts and service that we offer will be from a heart that is one with the Father’s and that lives out of an attitude of giving and service. When we live to serve, love and give to those around us then we live to serve and minister to Jesus. It will be in the random acts of kindness, the times we help those who couldn’t help themselves and in the times when we gave even when others didn’t deserve it. It is in a life that is lived for others and not just for self. It is in taking the time and having the heart for others even when our own life is so demanding. A sheep has a nature of a servant and was born to be a blessing. A goat may go through the motions, but their heart is not in it. They will never see the needs in others, because they are always blinded by their own.

The High Places
April 19, 2018
The High Places
2Chronicle 20:23
Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
In Old Testament times post dating Moses we know there was an altar of the Lord that dwelt in a tabernacle and later, through David, came to rest in Jerusalem. For us, who are New Testament Christians, this altar has become the equivalent of Calvary and the Cross. It is the central altar around which our faith rests and where we find communion with our fellow believers and the Lord Himself. It is our place of worship. It is the place where we committed our hearts and souls to the Lord and ask Him to come into our hearts, cleanse us and be the Lord of our lives. It is that place as Romans 12:1-2 puts it, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” It is that altar where we consecrate ourselves, our worship, our affections and our commitment, first and foremost to Jesus Christ, our Savior. He alone is the object of our worship, before whom there should be no other Gods. For it is written, “thou shalt worship the Lord God and Him only shalt thou serve (Matthew 4:10).”
Once again we are asked to go to the places we would rather leave hidden and obscure from the Holy Spirit’s observation. Today He comes to us to address the “high places” in our hearts and souls. These were the places, other than the altar at Jerusalem where the Israelites went to worship. They were places not designated or ordained of God. They were often places of cultic activity, idol worship and perhaps the places more convenient than the altar at Jerusalem. What are they for us today? Could they be the places of inordinate affections: our sports, our play, our work, our lust and sensuality, our harbored attitudes of unforgiveness, our movies, computers, games and any number of things that have come into the high places of our heart. If we are to prepare our hearts before the Lord as our scripture indicates we must deal with and take down the high places. These things are not easy to let go of. Our flesh craves and covets them, but they have become an abomination and have brought a separation between our God and us. They are the idols in our lives, rather we recognize them as such or not and with them we are breaking covenant with God. These are often things and areas we just as soon stay ignorant of because it will cause us to face areas of our lives we don’t want to face. It is really those areas where our flesh makes provision for itself to stay alive and active in us rather than going to the cross. Are we willing like King Josiah, after hearing the Word of the Lord, to go into the high places of our heart and soul and tear down the idols and affections we have built there? We must be willing to come honestly and openly before the Holy Spirit and ask Him to show us any unclean way in our heart. Then, as He begins to reveal these things, we have to be obedient to put them away from our lives. Our flesh will cry out and we will still want to harbor and keep some part of it, but when we do we are leaving seed for it to return and it will. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 tells us, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong-holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” What are the high things in our hearts that exalt themselves against God today? We must, by the Spirit pull down the strongholds and bring every thought into obedience to Christ. We must guard where our thoughts take us, because they may well be the seed for disobedience, rebellion and idolatry. We must guard our hearts and keep them tender in the light of God’s grace and truth.
“God, give us grace and strength to lay it all on the altar of sacrifice and let go of all that would offend You.”
For us to live an uncompromised life we must tear down the high places and deal with the hidden issues of our hearts. This is what the Holy Spirit is speaking to us, it is to prepare our hearts to be pure, consecrated and in right relationship with our Lord.

A Time to Speak
April 11, 2018
Proverbs 25:11
A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.
A Time to Speak
There is a lot of verbiage that goes through our mouths during our life. Most of it, in the light of eternity is virtually meaningless. We also know from Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” The tongue has the power to kill and it has the power to bring life. We have no doubt all been around individuals that rattle on and on and never really say anything of substance or value. We’ve been around individuals that could use their tongues to cut like a sword and with one sentence they could leave you feeling like the most worthless individual that ever lived. Occasionally, we come across those individuals that may not be very outspoken, but when they do speak their words are those apples of gold in pictures of silver. They speak a word that doesn’t just flatter you, but it speaks faith, confidence and gives you sense of value and purpose. Their words are rich with life and substance. Often they can be missed because those who are doing all of the talking are so full of themselves, they are all that they can hear. How often do we not hear the Holy Spirit, because we never give Him an opportunity to speak or when He does speak the sounding brass of our own thinking and speaking drowns him out? If we don’t hear Him it often may be because we don’t shut up long enough to listen.
The difference between what Jesus spoke and what the religious leaders spoke was quite different. They both spoke from the Word of God, but Jesus spoke as One having authority. We are around many that go through the religious motions and ceremony. They have knowledge of the Word, but what they are speaking is more often than not a regurgitation of something they have read or studied from someone else. On the other hand when we are listening to someone who has been in the presence of the Lord and is speaking out of His anointing those things which God has placed within their heart there is substance and depth that we so often long for, but so rarely find. Proverbs 16:1(Amplified) says, “THE PLANS of the mind and orderly thinking belong to man, but from the Lord comes the [wise] answer of the tongue.” What we want coming out of our mouths is the wisdom from above, not just our earthly wisdom and knowledge. It takes us being in the presence and seeking the heart of God for us to begin hearing the words He is speaking to us and through us. It is from the richness of God’s presence and the life of the Word within you that you will begin to speak fitly words that glisten with God’s nature and are framed within His redemptive character and likeness. They are words that will not just address the situation, but words that will speak to the motives of the heart. Within the root of a tree is found the substance of what it is, so is the root of a man’s heart. It is the fruit of that tree that reflects its root.

Are there Any Who Understand?

Are there Any Who Understand?
Psalms 14:1-3
The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.
2The Lord looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God.
3All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good,
not even one.
Are there Any Who Understand?
While God has made Himself known in so many ways, often men will not acknowledge and worship a God that they can not bring to their own level. So they make false gods after the imaginations of their own minds and thinking. They worship even their own corrupt ways and become a law unto themselves. The fact is, we all have been conceived in iniquity.
“The Lord looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.” In Romans 3:23 Paul says, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” In Ezekiel 22:30 God says, ““I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.” “All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one (Psalms 14:2).”
Do you suppose God ever feels like the rejected parents who have poured out their life, their love and their very best to their children only to be despised and rejected? The children rebel and that which you poured your heart and soul into now turns to rebel, despise and reject you. Parents that have experienced this from their children know the heartbreak experience of that person which was created in your image now turning their back on you and rejecting the love you have for them. How grievous and wounding it is.
The fact that the human race is still in existence today is a tribute to God’s unconditional love and grace toward mankind. Thank God, He had a Son that was willing to stand in gap for us and intercede on our behalf. He was not only willing to intercede for us, but to take His own Holy life and become sin for us that He, who alone was able, might receive upon Himself the just recompense of our sin and in turn impart unto us by faith His very own righteousness. Romans 5:6-11 declares, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”
Father is looking for those who will return to Him. He is looking for a heritage and a legacy of those who live by faith and obedience to His name. Those He can call His sons and daughters. Those who will honor, fear and revere the Mighty God of their salvation and redemption.
You who have embraced Christ with all of your hearts are such a people. 1 Peter 2:4-5 describes us, “As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him— 5you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” If we truly recognize the destiny unto which we have been called then we realize the high and holy calling that is upon our lives. By God’s grace let us live into the sons and daughters of the Most High that God has called and created us to be. We have the privilege of honoring and worshiping the Wondrous God that so many others have despised and rejected. Yet we know as parents that the heart of a father always longs for the return of his wayward children. We are Father’s instruments of love and reconciliation to that wayward world that we might extend again Father’s great love and forgiveness for them. His heart never stops beating for them, because His love is without condition. May we be the ones that stand in the gap today, ever making intercession and proclaiming God’s love and reconciliation to them that whosoever will may come in.
