In Adversity

Proverbs 30:8-9

Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.

9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the LORD ?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

In Adversity

If adversity in life has taught me anything it is how little I am and how great He is.  I see that when I am weak He is strong.  That adversity keeps us in a place of humility lest we be caught up in pride and boast in the works of our hands.  Our struggles are what keep us humble and our faces to the ground that we might pray and acknowledge who is Lord.  In those places of adversity and trial we find ourselves at the end our resources and we know that He is the only resource that we have.  God has a way of not rescuing us to soon before we have a chance to really know what He is trying to communicate to our hearts.  Sometimes it is in our poverty that we learn to give, in our weakness we become another’s strength and in our failure we become another’s success.  There is always a sacrifice and a dying before there is a true harvest.  That is a hard place, an unpleasant place and a place that brings us to a realization that our only significance is in Christ.  When we are no longer valuable in the world’s eyes is when we become of the greatest value to the Lord.

So we pray, “Father give us this day our daily bread.”  Each day we trust for His provision and in that provision He becomes our security and not we ourselves.  Our struggles and adversities keep us in a place of dependence and trust.  We are not exalted in power and riches that we would disown Him.  If He has empowered us with riches and honor then hopefully we never deny those humble beginnings when we struggled and floundered in our weakness.  We must never forget that even when He has lifted us up it is to be His ambassadors and to proclaim His goodness.

May God always supply our needs that we would never have to resort to crime and stealing and in so doing dishonor His name.  We pray that He may meet our needs according to His riches in glory.  We also pray that our needs are in alignment with His will and purpose so that as we trust Him, He may lead us where we need to go.   Whatever our station and what ever our place let us be true to Him and give Him the glory that He is worthy of.

Blessings,
