Expanded Faith Expands Who We Are

1 Peter 2:9-10

But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past [were] not a people, but [are] now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

At this time every year in our city they have what they call a Balloon Classic where people from all over the nation gather for about three days and each morning, weather and conditions permitting, these multitude of balloons are stretched out in the park and inflated with hot air.  Hundreds of people will rise up with the dawn’s early light and go to the park to watch this spectacular event as these balloons begin to become fully inflated and lift off.  This morning as I went out in my back yard I could see these many balloon hanging in the sky with all of their shapes and colors.  I was thinking of the analogy of us as Christians being like those hot air balloons.  Without the hot air to fill them those great balloons are just yards of nylon and a basket, really nothing to spectacular in themselves.  That hot air pumped into their interior begins to change all of that.  It changes their volume, their stature and most of all their dynamics from being earthbound to being heaven-bound.  What is happening to us as the body of Christ as we are pumped full of the Word of God and faith?  It changes who we are and our dynamics for living.  It fills us with a greatness that is not our own and yet it is.  It brings us to the potential for which we were created and the reason we have our being.  God has not called us to remain earthbound feeding in the barnyard with our heads down, scratching out a living with the rest of the chickens, He has given us wings of eagles to lift us up into the heavenlies.  He has given us keen spiritual vision to see beyond our limitations and our physical circumstances.  He has placed within our hearts the faith of His Word that is giving us lift to go and to do things beyond our human expectations and natural reasoning.

Those hot air balloons can rise to great heights, but they can also quickly descend and become earthbound again without that continual supply of hot air that gives them their lift.  That hot air for the believer is the faith in the Word of God.  We must continually heat that faith with the Word to give it substance and life for we know that, “ faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).  We also know that according to Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” God has called us to be a great people, even as He has called Israel, but our greatness will only be realized through a continued faith and obedience to God’s Word.  He is the wind that fills our sails and is the lift beneath our wings.  When we loose sight of that we will return to the barnyard and feed with the chickens.

Continue to be built up in your faith through the hearing, reading, meditation and the study of God’s Word.  Seek the Holy Spirit to give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.  He is lifting you up as your life is inflated with His Spirit.  “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present [you] faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, [be] glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen (Jude 24-25).”

Blessings,
